Nkumba University has established itself as a leading University and influential player dealing with security and strategic studies and research in the country. In addition to the internal discourses the University organizes discussions with security stakeholders and the public at large. The first security symposium under the theme: A comprehensive understanding of security sector management in a macro socio-political science perspective was held at Nkumba University in May 2015. The next conference was on National Security “Civil Society and Security Governance in Uganda: Breaking the Divide between State and Non State Actors’ Understanding of National Security” and was held on 3rd May 2017. Once again Nkumba University in conjunction with Security studies and Analysis Centre (SESAC-NU) are organising the third National Security Studies
Programme of the day
The main objective of the webinar is to share ideas on how to develop a common approach to security sector management in Uganda. The aim based on the view that no nation can attain development without security. To achieve this, the conference seeks to develop a dialogue between state and non-state actors in national security provision and governance. It is important to bring these two sectors to dialogue because security and development require all stakeholders input
The conference will also build up the University’s interaction with the policy making and practitioner’s community. The University already has a Master of Security and Strategic Studies and PhD Programme is soon to launched in the same area. And a vibrant chair in security studies and analysis is now in operation and to be officially launched on the day of the conference.
The conference will bring together senior officials from government ministries, the judiciary, the media, NGOs, academics, the military, police
and intelligence services, parliamentary security and defense oversight committees, selected local government representatives, international
development partners and diplomats
